What To Expect

History

To better understand your condition, a thorough history is necessary to get an overall picture of why you are presenting to the office. You will begin by telling your story. What hurts? When did it begin? How does this affect your daily life? What prior treatment have you undergone? Your doctor will then ask additional specific questions to complete your story.

Examination

Information in the history will be utilized to perform a thorough and focused exam. Several tests (functional, orthopedic, neurological, soft tissue, and joint) will be performed. Often the area that is problematic isn’t the only area of the body involved. These tests will reveal problems such as weakness, muscle imbalance, and reduced flexibility, which may be contributing to your pain.

Diagnosis

All the pertinent information from the history and exam will be carefully integrated to form a complete working diagnosis. Your injury will be explained in an easy-to-understand manner.

Treatment

The treatment plan will be explained to you including the types of treatment strategies necessary to fix your injury. Your treatment process may include protocols performed in the office, as well as home exercises, modification of perpetuating factors, etc. Through the course of treatment, your doctor will help you recognize and correct the problems that produced your injury in the first place.
